However good or bad the essay is, the feedback that is really useful is the constructively critical feedback. Often the first thing a student will do when they get an essay back is look at the mark and if the mark is very good, a good first for example, the tendency is to then put the essay aside and go and celebrate.

Your introduction should tell the reader what to expect from your essay. Stay focussed on the question, and keep it brief. Do not give very broad background information on the general topic, but focus instead on what is relevant to answering the set question.

Academic Reps provide invaluable feedback on the learning and teaching experiences of students to individual discipline areas and Schools, and so influence students’ experiences at the University. But this can only happen with the support of committed students who put themselves forward as Academic Reps and because UoA academic staff across the institution are willing to listen to and take.

Feedback should be designed so as to allow students to assess how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve performance. Where there are justifiable reasons as to why feedback can't be given in line with the policy, the relevant Head of School is responsible for notifying students as soon as this is known and an alternative date should be given.
